Oasis Skin Care knows that your best looking skin begins by doing your best to keep your energy and enthusiasm as high as possible. It is especially important now with all the doom and gloom on TV working hard to depress us. So here are a few tips to keep the energy high and the positivity flowing. If You Snack, Be Smart About It Eating a small strategically nutrition snack between meals can keep your energy level up while also helping you avoid lows that often come after we eat something with too much sugar, fat, or salt. With most processed snacks, they are designed to give you a “fix”, like a drug. The resulting fall afterwards almost always leads to overeating, and increasing highs and lows in our energy levels. So the first step is to avoid overly processed items. Choose Energy Bars Carefully Energy bars are a great way to keep your energy level stable between meals but most are a little bit too processed to really be trusted. Look for bars that have whole grains as the first ingredients. Make sure the bar is sweetened only with whole fruit, not sugar or fruit juice. In other words, look at the ingredients and make sure you understand exactly what they are and that they are whole foods. Go A Little Nuts Nuts like walnuts, pecans, almonds, and cashews are a good addition to our snacking routine. But we need to be careful to go raw because the cooked versions, while delicious, often come loaded with additional unhealthy ingredients such as salt, or the fats the nuts were fried in. However, the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that having a fist-full of nuts per day is associated with a reduced risk of major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. So clearly, it makes a ton of sense to add them to our snacking routine. Keep Your Radiator Full Our cars will overheat and make our lives miserable if we don’t keep the coolant system full of fluid. Think of your body the same way. Your body gives off a surprising amount of signals that tell you it is thirsty, but most of us only recognize parched mouths as the tell-tale sign it is time to get some water. However, other symptoms can include headaches, lethargy, and even hunger pangs just to name a few. If you’ve been following along you’ll know that our mantra here at Oasis Skin Care Clinic is “Drink More Water”. Try to get 8 glasses daily just to make sure hydration is never a problem. Sleep, Dear Beauty… We recommend that everyone try to get 7-8 hours of restful sleep. There are volumes and volumes of scientific data on why this works best. In order to keep your energy levels as high as possible during the day it just makes sense that you need to have a fully charged battery. It is also good for your the health of your nervous and cardiovascular system. Get Thine Blood Pumping Our bodies were made to move about all day, searching for or maintaining stores of food, even occasionally running it down if we needed to catch it. Our society has just about evolved to the point where we will be sitting in front of our screens all day and Amazon drones will fly into our homes and deliver our next caloric intake directly into our pie-holes. The best way to combat the pressure of sedentary life is to try to walk about at least an hour a day. Get a pedometer and set a goal of at least 5,000 steps a day to start. It’s better if you can get 10,000 steps a day in, but we’ll start you off easy. To Caffeine, Or To Not Caffeine Lastly, we recommend avoiding products containing caffeine after lunch. Doing this helps your body fully get rid of the drug by the time you go to sleep. We also recommend that any products you use to give yourself a caffeine boost in the morning contain no excess sugar. Green tea is an awesome option for a light boost, while also delivering a multitude of antioxidant goodness. So there you have it! A simple list of healthy, energy-boosting tips you can use to smooth out your day while prepping your body to have the most restful sleep you can! |
