Product Special!

Baby it’s cold outside... so let's talk about how that affects your face... Dehydration vs. Dryness.
  • Dehydration is the lack of water in the skin whereas dryness is the lack of oil or lipids in the skin.
  • Dryness is typically something that is seen year-round. Meaning that if you have dry skin, your skin is producing less oil regardless of the atmosphere, climate, etc. People with dry skin tend to have smaller pores (unless they are inflamed), are easily sensitized (turn red), and typically are of caucasian descent.

Dehydrated skin occurs when there is a lack of water in the skin. When you are on my table and I begin the process of cleansing the skin, I know immediately if your skin is dehydrated if your skin absorbs all the water I used to lather the cleanser.

There are two primary reasons the skin can become dehydrated... Internal Factors and External Factors.
  •  Internal Factors of dehydration include:
    • Not enough water intake
    • Intake of Diuretics (also called water pills, diuretics are medications designed to increase the amount of water and salt expelled from the body as urine) such as caffeine, dandelion extract, parsley, and black cumin.
    • Medications require a lot of water in the body to assist in flushing and processing. So, if you are taking medications on a regular basis, they can contribute to overall dehydration.

  • External Factors of dehydration are attributed to the atmosphere or the climate. Living in Southern Illinois, we aren’t strangers to the effects of the humidity on our skin and hair. During the summer months, dry skin types benefit from the humidity because we all have these lovely little Humectants (water absorbers) in our cells to attract water to our skin. But in the winter, when the humidity is very low, our humectants (try as they may) cannot rely on water from the atmosphere. In fact, the atmosphere pulls water from our skin through the process of evaporation, or Transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

So if the key to fighting dehydration internally is drinking more water, ingesting water-based foods (Fruits & Veggies), and avoiding diuretics, then the key to fighting external factors of dehydration is to prevent evaporation.
To prevent evaporation in the skin, we must correct and prevent the loss of water by creating a barrier between the skin and the atmosphere with something oil-based, like a moisturizer. The term Moisturizer can be a bit misleading because it leads to the thought that the product adds moisture (water) to the face, when in fact it is designed to prevent TEWL.

Shopping for the right moisturizer can be tough because many factors go into it, including:
  1. Skin type (dry, normal, oily)?
  2. Do you wear a liquid or powder foundation?
  3. Do you have wrinkles or aging skin that needs extra support?
  4. Do you live in an environment that is dry or humid?

At Oasis, we have cultivated a few of the best selections of moisturizers to fit a variety of skincare needs. Hands-down, my personal favorite is
Quench Nourishing Moisturizer by Osmosis. This moisturizer remains lightweight even though it has Jojoba oil as a base and shea butter to act as a sealant to prevent environmental evaporation. And a bonus, it wears super great under makeup!

Remember this winter, if you have a wood-burning stove, enjoy a fireplace, or are very sensitive to forced heat, I highly recommend using our Intensive Nourishing Cream as a nighttime moisturizer with Quench as a daytime moisturizer. Both of these moisturizers are rich in vitamin E oil and they are great at locking in the hydration that your skin so desperately needs.

Bonus: Don’t forget you can get 20% Off the Intensive Nourishing Cream (among other items) at our Holiday Open House Event tomorrow, Saturday, November 16th from 10 am - 4 pm.

If you cannot make it to our Open House but would like to reserve this product, simply reply to this email or text us at 618-207-4404.

"It is sometimes difficult to find a massage therapist that is actually a "therapist" but Sam is certainly one! I can't say enough good things about the way she applies her knowledge and skills to the actual problems you may be experiencing. I highly recommend her!" - P. Slightom

“Sam is the best massage therapist I have ever had. She noticed a condition with my ankle that No therapist has ever mentioned and she even gave me some stretches to do and work with my trainer to make sure I am standing and supporting myself safely.” - C. Korando

As a current client, through the end of the year, you can experience Sam’s gift of massage during the more hectic time of the year for $15 Off. To make your reservation call or text us at 618-207-4404.
