Do Hair, Skin and Nail Pills Really Work?

We are told everyday to take a multivitamin and for the most part we do it without question, right? However, there are plenty of times I have been told to take a Hair, Skin, and Nail vitamin and I don’t even though I have struggled with Acne, Thinning Hair and Nails. It is almost like I feel their is a level of vanity in taking “medicine” to look better - which I know, makes NO sense what-so-ever.  I figured if I am going to take vitamins to keep my bones healthy and my joints working properly, then it  is only logical and responsible to make sure my skin (which is my largest organ) is healthy too. Let’s just be honest, it is not like I am getting all the needed nutrition from eating healthy---Once I came to that conclusion I started doing my research. Here is what I learned.

What ingredients to look for in a Hair, Skin and Nail Vitamin

Good Quality Hair, Skin and Nail pills have the
Top 3  following ingredients:

Biotin - is a co-enzyme and a B vitamin, it is also called Vitamin H. It is super important in the body's metabolic function, which translates to healthy skin, hair and nails. This  water-soluble vitamin is essential for breaking down fatty acids. Proper processing creates a gloss on skin, which protects against dehydration and sun damage. Biotin helps stimulate  protein for nail and hair growth. Providing a healthier texture and protecting against dryness. Look for this key ingredient if you have bitter hair, dry skin or flaky nails.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids work to fight dry and damaged hair. Also the DHA and EPA found in omega-3 is a bonus and helps boost elasticity and shine to dull hair. Omega-3s support a healthy skin inflammatory response which contributes to clear skin. The dietary fat found in omega-3 fatty acids helps protect and repair skin cells..  Fatty acids can act as natural moisturizers that replenish dry skin from the inside out.

Vitamin B acts as an detox,  if you will. It serves as antioxidant  which helps the body remove bacteria and also helps balance out the testosterone levels in your system. The lack of  Vitamin B is  a big contribution to acne breakout. -- This is for me for sure!--- Getting enough B in your body will help keep the pimples at bay. Vitamin B also helps to reduce stress and aids the adrenal glands!  Double Bonus to us stress “breakouters”!

Other important ingredients to be on the look out for are: vitamins A E and C.

It Works: Hair, Skin and Nails

I found products that ranged from $100 for 60 pills to 30 for $10,  I looked for a product that  had Vitamin B in it, as I struggle with Acne. When looking for your skincare vitamin, make sure you are shopping for your skin condition. Anyway, I purchased the It Works - Hair Skin and Nails. I have a friend that sales it and I always try to purchase when I can.  The product got great reviews and I have heard good things about it, but I still had to do the research. I am currently on week 1 of my 30 day supply so a review will definitely be on the way.

The product has 2 of the above listed Key ingredients and it smells like peppermint, which is a nice change from my Centrum Women's vitamin. The only ingredient that the It Works doesn't have is Omega 3, but I was ok with that because I don’t suffer from dehydrated skin issues.

It cost $33.00 for a 30 day supply. I will let you know if it is worth it.  The challenge for me will be to remember to take them, I am storing them with the rest of my skin care items to ensure they are apart of my morning and night routine.

So, do Hair, Skin and Nail pills actually work?

So the research shows, yes.  When used correctly Hair, Skin and Nail vitamins or supplements do help improve skincare issues including complexion, hair and nail texture and rate of growth.  However, to get the best results make sure you are shopping for a product that will help with your issue rather than a specific brand. Also, be sure to be realistic in your expectations for results. Think about it this way,  because you take calcium daily doesn't mean you won't ever break a bone, but it does help prevent brittle bones.
