If you are like me, you don't really have time to sit at the nail salon every two weeks and get a great mani and pedi. And if you are like me, as much as you want to say you have time to soak your toe-toes and do a great home pedi each month, it actually occurs about every two months. What's a gal to do? I refuse to have crusty dry toes with chipped polish.  I have developed and process & product system that is  fast, SUPER Cute, easy and will last at least 10 days on your hands and 14 or longer on your toes.

What is the BEST Gel Nail Polish:  SOLO One Step VS Fuse Gelnamel

So a couple of weeks ago I did a review on SOLO One Step Gel Nail Polish and Fuse Gelnamel by Sensationail. I wanted to compare the two products. First let me say they are really great products and I like them both, however, one is better than the other.

Price: SOLO One Step is $8.99 at the Carbondale IL Ulta and FUSE Gelnamel by Sensationail is $9.99 at the Carbondale,IL Walmart. So price wise they are super comparable and easily accessible to everyone.

Quality: Ok so now we get to the nitty-gritty. Like most GEL Polishes these are thick and only take about two coats & two LED lamp cures to set.  The colors come across vibrant and glossy as it should be with GEL Nail Polish. However, the biggest kicker is does it last the full 2 weeks? I have yet to find any DIY Gel Nail Polish that lasts for 2 full weeks. In fact, the best I have ever gotten is 1 week and not from either of these items, I digress.  The Solo One Step out lasted the Fuse Gelnamel by about 2 full days.  Disappointingly, the Fuse only lasted about 2 days before I got the first chip. I was hoping it was just a fluke on one nail, but each day longer a different name chipped. My best tip to get longer lasting wear from the Fuse product is to use Sensational Primer after buffing the shine from the nail. The Solo One Step product lasted 3 solid Days without chipping and only 1 single name really came off. However,  by the 5th and 6th days my nails were unbearable and I had to remove the product. The removal process for both products are pretty basic, using cotton balls, aluminium foil and acetone I soaked the polish off of my nails.

Application Process: The biggest difference in the application process is that the SOLO One Step, truly is only one step. Check out my application video to see full details. There is no base coat, top coat combo needed and you don't even need a residue remover. Whereas with the FUSE Gelnamel product you do need to wipe away a sticky finish. However, aside from that the  application processes are the same.

Overall: Overall, I like the SOLO One Step better than the Fuse Gelnamel, because it is slightly more affordable and it requires fewer steps in applications. I love it when any product can save me time & money.  Furthermore, the SOLO One Step is  actually a better quality products, it stayed on my nails for 3 full days without chipping. The Fuse product was chipping within 2 days.

Sally Hansen's Miracle Gel Nail Polish: Product Review

I am an Accountant and I use my hands all day, usually chipping regular nail polish regardless of brand after  at least the 3rd day of wearing it.  In addition to being a ridiculously “rough handed” I am also a mother of a 9 year old with a very busy dance life of her own, oh and did I mention I am a wife to a super supportive man that runs his own business? Anyway, like most women, my time is  one of the most important & precious things to me.  An hour alone for some pampering is like gold, so I try my best to get as much done in that hour as possible.  When I saw the Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel Nail Polish & Top coat, I gotta say I was ultra excited about an affordable product that claimed to give me the same shine and no chip longevity of a Gel Nail Polish application without the curing lamp. All I could think was, maybe I could do my toes and hands in the same hour!

What's the Diff  Between Nail Polish & Nail Lacquer?

Nail polish and nail lacquer are used for the purpose of nail protection. Polish is a varnish applied on the nails to make them shiny, whereas nail lacquer is a much thicker solution. According to Webster's Dictionary, a nail polish is defined as: “varnish applied to the fingernails or toenails to color them or make them shiny".

Nail polishes give a shiny effect and provide thick coating to the nails. This coating helps protect the nails from the external factors like cracking and flaking. And who doesn't love a little color?

Gel Nails Vs Gel Polish

Gel nails are nail extensions made using a hard gel product. The gel is hardened by curing under an ultraviolet or L.E.D.light.  The ever popular Gel Nail Polishes evolved from the original Gel nail extension process.

There are two types of gel, hard gel and soft gel. Hard gel, once cured, is tough enough to be made into a nail extension, also called an artificial nail. Artificial nails is the process of extending your natural.   Soft gel refers to the gel products that are too soft to create a nail extension, such as gel nail polishes. Gel polish manicures are gentle to the natural nail and the polish stays intact on the nail for at least a couple of weeks with high shine and no cracking, peeling or chipping. It is best to have a trained professional apply both hard and soft gel products for the best lasting results.

Gel extensions is a type of artifical nails, but not the same as the well known  acrylic nail extension. Acrylic Nails are created using liquid monomer and polymer powder. All gel services are performed using some form of gel and require curing under a U.V. or L.E.D. light to harden. Curing is the chemical process in which  photo-initiators within the gel itself are exposed to the heat while the oligomers combine to form long chains during the polymerization process. These bonded chains is what makes the gel hard. Once the gel nail extension is cured there is a sticky residue that is removed by wiping with a cotton ball soaked in high concentrate alcohol.
