How to Prepare for Your 1st Waxing Treatment – The Ultimate Guide
Your Guide to a Smoother, Faster Routine (Because Shaving Every Other Day Isn’t It)
If you’re juggling work, kids, workouts, errands in Marion, Carbondale, Anna, or Murphysboro, and trying to look put-together without living in your bathroom… waxing might just be your new best friend.
Let’s be honest: shaving every day (or every other day) is a time thief. And those at-home wax kits? They’re messy, unpredictable, and one wrong move away from a regret you don’t need.
If it’s your first time waxing, start with a professional. Your skin (and your schedule) will thank you.
At Oasis Skin & Wellness Center, we’re licensed, insured, and a little obsessed with doing things the right way. Clean space. Skilled hands. No shortcuts. Because when you’re trusting someone with your skin, details matter.
Prep to Wax Check List
So…You booked your wax. Good. Now let’s set you up for the best results possible.
1. Exfoliate 2 Days Before
The body needs extra help here. Use a gritty salt scrub (yes, salt — not sugar). This clears dead skin around the pores and follicles so the wax can grab hair, not skin.
Smooth skin = better results = fewer ingrowns.
2. Skip Astringents or Toners
They tighten pores, which makes it harder for the hair to release. Hold off before your appointment.
3. Take a Little Edge Off (Optional but Smart)
If you’re nervous about discomfort, take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory like Advil or Aleve about 20 minutes beforehand.
We can also apply a numbing spray if needed. No trophies for suffering here.
4. Let It Grow
You’ll need about 2 weeks of growth — roughly ¼ inch (think pencil eraser length).
Too short = the wax can’t grab it. Too long = we’ll handle it.
What Your Esthetician Should Be Asking You
Before we even wax, we’ll ask about products and treatments that could make waxing unsafe. These include:
Microdermabrasion
Chemical peels
Sunburn
Retin-A
Accutane
Vitamin A skincare products
These can thin or sensitize the skin, increasing the risk of lifting, tearing, or pigmentation issues.
If you’re using topical Vitamin A, stop 48 hours before your appointment.
We take this seriously — because beautiful skin should never come at the cost of damaged skin.
Real Talk About Results
Not every hair will be gone after your first visit — especially with a Brazilian. Hair grows in cycles.
Most clients need about 3 visits to get consistently smooth results. If you’ve been shaving for years, it may take a little longer. But once your cycles sync up? Game changer.
At Oasis, we offer 50% off 3-week follow-up Brazilian waxing appointments to grab the hairs that were too short or not ready the first time.
That’s how we help you get smooth faster — and stay that way.
During Your Wax: Breathe
The more you tense up, the more uncomfortable it feels. Deep breaths. Relax your muscles. We’ll coach you through it.
You’re not the first woman from Southern Illinois to be nervous — and you won’t be the last. We’ve got you.
Aftercare Matters (Especially for Busy Women)
For 24 hours after waxing:
Avoid direct sun exposure
Wear SPF on exposed areas
Wait 24 hours before intercourse after a Brazilian
Wait 24 hours before applying deodorant if underarms were waxed
Your skin is fresh and more sensitive. Treat it like it just had a facial — because it kind of did.
Why Women in Marion, Carbondale, Anna & Murphysboro Choose Waxing
Because it saves time.
Because it reduces irritation from daily shaving.
Because regrowth is softer and slower.
Because smooth skin feels confident — and confidence is efficient.
You don’t need another thing on your to-do list. You need fewer things.
If you’re ready to simplify your grooming routine and feel polished without the daily razor battle, we’re here for you.
Smooth skin. Less maintenance. More time for what actually matters.
