Raise your hand if you're racing out of the door each morning because you have to get the kids to school, go to work, pick up breakfast, walk the dog etc. Do you really have time or even choose to make the time to shave each morning? If you are like me the answer is no you don’t shave daily; instead you pick out your clothes to avoid having to do it all together. Especially now, I love this time of year just because I never had to shave, I would just hide my hairiness behind a beautiful sweater and skinny jeans. That's before I discovered the freedom waxing bring. While shaving can result in unsightly and spiky stubble appearing almost instantly, waxing leaves skin silky smooth and hair free for a considerably longer period of time, making waxing the longest lasting temporary hair removal solution. If you are willing to brave out the temporary discomfort; the benefits of waxing unwanted hair from the skin are enough to make many women, and some men, become regular waxing warriors. In this blog I discuss the Pros and Cons of waxing. If it's your first time waxing, we recommend getting a professional waxing treatment. Home based wax products aren’t usually the best, and certainly, leave more room for error. It's best to choose a professional whose appearance is neat and clean - it'll reflect in their service. Now that you’ve found a professional that is licensed and insured and have made an appointment; there are a few things you need to do before hand. Hot Waxing
You can do this at home or you can have it done by a professional in a salon. My current Esthetician is Kim at E. Claire Salon and she is one of the best in the Hot Waxing business in Southern Illinois. Between Brazilian sessions, I do my own legs and underarms. However, at-home waxing can be messy, a bit painful and may leave some hair behind because they can break off. Because this method pulls from the "root" the finish is smooth and last about 3 weeks. And, the more you consistantly you do it the thinner the unwanted hair becomes, therefore the less you will have to remove (YAY!!). If you choose to use hot wax at home, it is best for brows (if you have a steady hand & good eye), underarms, legs, upper lips and the bikini area. I recommend a hard wax for the bikini area. You should not use this method if you also use certain types of prescription acne creams (such as Retin-A) on the area. Tips for Safe Hot Waxing at Home: 1. Test your wax on your wrist (yes, like a baby's bottle). You don't want a hot wax burn. 2. Put down a towel (that you don't care about ruining) to catch excess wax that may drip. 3. Use an actual wax oven, wooden application sticks, and cloth strips. The smaller hand-held or microwavable items on the market I find can easily get too hot or the wax gets too hard and breaks. 4.
